MLK Day 2011

Our AmeriCorps VISTA wrote up the following brilliant piece of literature regarding MLK Day activities:

On Martin Luther King Day 2011 AIHTI members got together to participate in a “day on” during their day off. We went to the Monroe County United Ministries offices in Bloomington at 8am and worked with about 20 other volunteers to paint the hallway and gym of the Ministries’ school. With so much man-power and cooperation, we were able to knock out both projects by 1pm. In addition to helping out the local community, AIHTI also made some connections during the day of service. We worked with the local Bloomington AmeriCorps Alumni chapter, and hopefully this leads to further collaboration with our two groups. It was an awesome day complete with the best pizza I’ve ever had (Aver’s? I’m not real keen yet on the pizza around this town so it blew my mind!) and the opportunity to get to know our members better. Can’t wait for next year’s “day on.”
